Jahnkes take on one of Sonys new Screen Classics by Request MOD titles Nightwing ! So does Sonys Manufacturing on Demand program deliver? Sounds like yes, in Jahnkes opinion. Read the review to find out more. And be sure to check back tomorrow for his Oktoberfest grand finale! According to Peter Bowen over on the Focus Features blog, Focus and Universal will be releasing Anton Corbijns The American, starring George Clooney, on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/ Extras will include audio commentary by the director and the half-hour Journey to Redemption: The Making of The American featurette. And as it happens, heres the DVD and Blu-ray cover art too. Thanks to our old friend Michael S. for the heads-up! Uni also has Nanny McPhee Returns due on DVD and Blu-ray on 12/14, as you can see by the cover art above. And Lionsgate has announced their first three January 2011 titles due on DVD on 1/4: The Lena Baker Story, Barney: Musical Zoo and Thomas Friends: Wobbly Wheels and Whistles. Dont laugh, Im sure SOMEBODY out there was freaking out wondering when Barney: Musical Zoo was streeting. So there you go. Also, in other news mixed blessings for 3DTV and Blu-ray 3D: First, Zagat says that 65% of customers they surveyed arent interested in 3DTV. Meanwhile, NPD says that 42% of the consumers theyve surveyed say that theyre somewhat interested in watching 3D movies at home. On top of this, a survey conducted by the International 3D Society says that 60% of adults in their poll say they have yet to watch a film in 3D, either at home or in a theatre. But hey if you DO dig 3D, Oakley is making their own cool 150 3D glasses, themed to Disneys new Tron Legacy. Heres what they look like. One caveat theyre passive/polarized lenses, currently for select theatrical use only, not home 3D use. However according to Oakleys press release, theyre working with manufacturers of passive systems for possible future home 3D compatibility. Whats the message in all this 3D news? 3D is probably here to stay, but its going to be a LOOOOOONG, slow road to widespread adoption. Read more via the linked stories at Home Media. Finally this morning, weve been getting a number of reports from Sony Blu-ray player owners who say theyre having problems playing Foxs Alien Anthology discs. Specifically, they can play the first disc fine, but the Disc Unbound or Mother Mode option seems to be choking their players when they try to switch to another disc from the set. If youre having problems with this or ANY Blu-ray title, be sure to contact your players customer support service ASAP. The more people who contact them quickly when having a problem, the faster these issues can be resolved via new firmware updates. Youll find Sonys here, Oppos here, Panasonics here, Samsungs here etc a quick web search can uncover all the rest.
